Women’s Denim Shirts – Top Picks
I’m not sure about you, but coming into autumn there is nothing I like better than a good denim shirt when it is too cold to go out with bare arms, but too warm to wear a coat. I’m not keen on wearing a fitted denim shirt fully buttoned up with a pair of denim skinnies; but worn instead of a cardigan with a vest top, layered over a dress, wearing a slightly oversized shirt with leather-look leggings or a pleather skirt is the epitome of effortlessly-cool to me.
What makes a good denim shirt?
I’m picky with denim shirts. I find shirts that are too structured and fitted unflattering and difficult to work with, too oversized can look sloppy and the wash of denim has to work well with other colours so I prefer either a lighter denim or a dark grey wash. I’m also not a fan of embellishments, rips, fades or ruffles – basically I like to keep it simple! The thickness has to be right – too thick and it ends up looking a little bulky, and too thin can sometimes look cheap. I like a relaxed fit with a length that covers the bum so I can wear it with leather-look leggings, without it being too long to look as though I am drowning in material or it being too difficult to tuck into skirts. Here are a few of my favourites this season.
Where can you find a good women’s denim shirt?
As i’ve said, i’m not a fan of frills, studs or other embellishments, rips or fades. I like my denim shirts to be simple and work with a number of outfits. ASOS is generally the holy grail and my go-to place to find, well, basically anything. I also like a bit of Topshop, they generally have a wide range of denim shirts in easy-to-wear colours and simple styles. Here are a few of my favourite women’s denim shirts:
I love love love everything about this shirt. The length is perfect and it carefully treads the balance of being oversized but not too much. I also love the colour, I think it would look lovely with a white cami and some black skinny jeans. Sometimes I feel washed black denim shirts can be a bit more versatile than blue.
One of the more affordable options on my list. I love a good midwash blue shirt, and I really like the shape at the bottom, how it is longer at the front and back and cuts up at the side.
Sometimes it is all in the detail, and I love the buttons. As I said before, I’m a massive fan of washed black and this is a slightly cheaper version of the Topshop Moto shirt. It’s perfect if you’re looking for something a little more fitted (but not too much).
I love the shape of this shirt and how it is styled on the website. It is a pretty unusual wash and I like that it’s blue but not too blue (if that even makes sense). I’m just picturing it now with a black pleather skirt…
